The Dan Mindich Teacher Project
dan2.png

An initiative of Propel Capital, the Mindich and Sirovich families, and Dan’s friends to honor his memory, his love of teaching and his work to create collaborative, joyful networks for teachers that help young people learn.

DAN WAS COMMITTED TO BRINGING STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TOGETHER TO HONE THEIR SKILLS AND ADVANCE COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIES, A FOCUS OF HIS DOCTORAL WORK AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY. HE CO-AUTHORED MULTIPLE PAPERS ON THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHERS IN THE US AND ADVOCATED FOR INTENSIVE HANDS-ON PREPARATION FOR LIBERAL ARTS STUDENTS CONSIDERING THE PROFESSION.

The Initiative

The Dan Mindich Teacher Project will work together with Vassar College, Dan’s alma mater, and Smith College to inspire a new generation of teachers, building on each institution’s deep expertise in urban education.

The project will support:

  • Growth of the Smith-led Mindich Fellowship—an intensive apprenticeship experience to expose and engage students in the profession of teaching

  • Launch of an education prize in Dan’s name at Vassar

  • Continued innovation and leadership through Vassar and Smith’s urban education programs.

“As teachers we need the space to be creative and innovative, but when we work collaboratively and with common purpose, we improve our craft and better serve our students.”
- Dan
